12 African Youth in Agriculture Get YFarm Award

Twelve (12) African Youth comprising of one (1) Ugandan and eleven (11) Nigerians shave been celebrated as pioneer recipients of the YFarm Award for outstanding accomplishments in various areas of agriculture.

The Youth Farm (YFarm) awards is a part of the YFarm project that was put together by Fresh and Young Development Initiative and Alexijah Consulting. The YFarm project aims at establishing and promoting at least 12, 000 youth lead farms across Africa by 2020 as well as promote youth led agribusiness society, reduce poverty and increase active youth participation in sustainable agriculture.

The awardees which included just one (1) female were practitioners in various branches of agriculture including agribusiness, animal husbandry, aquaculture, crop production, and processing and packaging.

Dr. Samuel Negedu, the National Coordinator of the National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria (NAFN) while congratulating the awardees at the 1st African Youth Agric Festival held on August 12th 2014 admonished the recipients not to rest on their oars.

Barr. Nkiruka Nnaemego, Founder of Fresh and Young Brains Development Initiative explained that the competitive award was done embracing best practices with judges coming from government, private sectors and the non-profit world.
