Nigeria’s University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) has produced the first set of indigenous trained nuclear engineers. The set of six (6) graduates were sponsored by the National Atomic Energy Comission (NAEC).
University of Port-Harcourt which was the first of the four universities mandated by the NAEC to produce a working masters degree curriculum for the course, was supported in the 15 months training by University of Maiduguri, Obafemi Awolowo University, and Ahmadu Bello University.
The University’s Director of the Centre for Nuclear Studies, Prof. Ayoada Kuye, told newsmen on Wednesday in Port Harcourt that of the six projects done by the graduates, three have already been published in internationally respected journals with two awaiting publication.
We hope that these graduates will really spark a positive nuclear era for Nigeria and Africa at large.
